Booking system | A booking chart for the following calendar year is circulated in agreed priority order, typically starting about March. Each owner has a priority for that year, and moves up broadly a couple of places each year, as part of a planned cycle. After a year at the top of the list, the pair goes to the bottom for the next year, to start the cycle again. Each owner can choose two weeks (separately or as a fortnight) in the ‘high season’ (April to September inclusive), as well as one week in the remainder of the year. Once this process is complete for all shares, owners then may choose a fourth week if they wish, but this is done in REVERSE order so that those who got last choice for their first three weeks get first choice for their fourth. Any remaining weeks, plus any that arise during the year if original share-owners cannot use them, are available for other syndicate members to bid for: priority is again given in order from the BOTTOM (like the fourth weeks). |
Priority for school holidays | No such scheme in place. |
General Comments About the Boat
Starting at the rear of the boat, gas bottles are stored in the lockers, along with anchor chains and mooring equipment.
Steps lead down into the saloon which has a L shaped sofa which can be made into a double bed. It has fold up tables, a TV and radio and a spare chair. There are plenty of sockets throughout the boat for charging up phones, ipads, etc.
The central heating to radiators is provided by a heater, which also provides the hot water.
Next is the kitchen which is well equipped with a full-size gas hob, oven, fridge, microwave and cupboards. There is a good selection of crockery, cutlery, glasses, as well as basic items such as salt, pepper, washing up liquid, kitchen rolls etc.
Between the saloon and the front bedroom is the bathroom which has a convenient hip bath, shower system, toilet, sink and cupboards.
The front bedroom contains a double bed with drawers, a wardrobe and sink.
The boat has a generous fresh water tank, and a 65 gallon fuel tank. There is 12-volt lighting and 240-volt AC supplied by inverter or by land-line hook up.
The engine is a 4 cylinder Isuzu diesel. The engine instruments include an RPM gauge and warnings for low oil pressure, high water temperature and alternator failure. The engine houses the battery banks for the engine and domestic electrics and calorifier which is our second source of hot water.
The boat has breakdown insurance with the Canal & River Rescue.

Please visit Omega's website here http://nb-omega.co.uk for a stem-to-stern tour of the boat with more photographs. The OMEGA is a lovely boat, well equipped and easy to handle. It has everything on board that you need for wonderful holidays. The owners all take great pride in keeping the boat up to a very high standard and this makes holidays more enjoyable.
The base for this year is very centrally located in the country and with great motorway links, it is easy to get to Great Haywood. The location on the Trent & Mersey gives access to a number of different canals, enabling many different choices of destinations.
It is run by an extremely efficient and friendly syndicate who meet once a year at the A.G.M to look back on the year, plan for the next year, as well as discussing the very comprehensive accounts.
Decisions are made as to where the boat will be moored for the following year and all owners are free to make their suggestions.
